Ajax, a reproduction of the original by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Italy, 1660.

In ancient Greece, Ajax (also known as Aias) was a legendary hero and warrior, who was considered one of the strongest and most skilled fighters in the Trojan War. He was one of the leaders of the Greek army, along with Achilles and Agamemnon, and was said to have been favored by the goddess Athena.

Ajax was the son of Telamon, the king of the island of Salamis, and was often referred to as “Ajax the Great” to distinguish him from another hero named Ajax, who was known as “Ajax the Lesser”. He was known for his immense strength, courage, and fighting prowess, as well as for his loyalty and devotion to his comrades.
