Madame Recamier, a reproduction of the  antique marble bust by Joseph Chinard, 1756-1813.

Madame Récamier, also known as Juliette Récamier, was a prominent figure in French society during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. She was born on December 4, 1777, in Lyon, France, and died on May 11, 1849, in Paris.

Madame Récamier was known for her beauty, intelligence, and charm, and she became a celebrated hostess in Parisian high society. She was a patron of the arts and was friends with many of the leading cultural figures of her time, including François-René de Chateaubriand, Benjamin Constant, and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, who painted her portrait.

Madame Récamier was also involved in political affairs, and her salon was a meeting place for influential politicians, intellectuals, and artists. She was a supporter of liberal causes, and during the Bourbon Restoration, she used her influence to advocate for the rights of women and to promote the freedom of the press.
