Diana Chasseresse, a marble bust.

In Greek mythology, Diana is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis. She is the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, childbirth, and virginity. Diana is the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. She is often depicted as a maiden huntress carrying a bow and arrows, with a crescent moon on her forehead.

Diana was a revered deity in ancient Greece, and she was associated with fertility, the moon, and the wilderness. She was believed to protect young women, especially during their transition to womanhood. She was also known for her fierce independence and was often depicted as a strong and powerful goddess. Her worship was especially popular in regions of Greece that were heavily forested or had significant wildlife, such as the region around the city of Ephesus.
