The Emperor Commodus Marble Bust

, ,

The Young Commodus Roman Emperor Marble Bust.

From 177 to 192, Commodus ruled as a Roman emperor, succeeding his father Marcus Aurelius with whom he co-ruled from 177 to 180. After his father’s death, he continued to reign alone until he was assassinated. His reign is often associated with the end of the Pax Romana, a period of peace in Roman history.

At the age of 16, Commodus became the youngest emperor and consul up to that point, having previously accompanied his father during the Marcomannic Wars in 172 and toured the Eastern provinces in 176.

The dimensions of the bust are 71 cm in height, 49 cm in width, and 25 cm in depth. Its base has a diameter of 17 cm, and the bust weighs 18 kg.
