Venus de Milo Marble Statue

,

Venus de Milo Statue, after the antique.

The Venus de Milo is a famous ancient Greek statue believed to have been created between 130 and 100 BCE. It is named after the Greek island of Milos, where it was discovered in 1820 by a farmer and a French naval officer. The statue is made of marble and depicts the goddess Aphrodite, known to the Romans as Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.

The original Venus de Milo from ancient times is approximately 6 feet 8 inches (2.04 meters) tall and depicts a standing, semi-naked female figure, with one arm missing. The statue is renowned for its graceful and elegant pose, with the goddess standing with her weight shifted to one leg, her hips tilted, and her arms raised above her head. The expression on her face is serene and enigmatic, which has led to much speculation about the statue’s original meaning and purpose.

The Venus de Milo is widely regarded as a masterpiece of ancient Greek sculpture, and it is considered one of the most famous and iconic works of art in the world. It is currently housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, where it is one of the museum’s most popular and beloved exhibits.
