Spring, A roundel copy of the original by Bertel Thorvaldsen.

The Spring Roundel in Marble is a sculpture created by Bertel Thorvaldsen, a Danish neoclassical sculptor who lived from 1770 to 1844. The sculpture depicts the goddess of spring, Persephone, who is known in Roman mythology as Proserpina.

The Spring Roundel is a circular relief sculpture made of marble, measuring about 70 centimeters in diameter. It was created in 1802-1803 and is now on display at the Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The sculpture depicts Persephone holding a bouquet of flowers in her left hand, while her right hand is raised to her face in a gesture of surprise or awe. The flowers she holds are thought to represent the return of spring and the rebirth of nature after the long winter months. The relief is highly detailed, with intricate folds in Persephone’s clothing and the delicate features of her face and hands.

Size: 70 x 70 x 5 cm. Weight 12kg.
