Napoleon Bonaparte was a significant figure in French history, playing a crucial role during the French Revolution and the wars that followed it.
He rose to prominence as a military commander and then became the de facto leader of France, establishing himself as First Consul in 1799.
He then went on to become Emperor of the French in 1804, consolidating his power and expanding his empire through a series of successful military campaigns.
His reign ended in 1814 after his defeat in the Napoleonic Wars, but he briefly returned to power in 1815 before being exiled to the island of Saint Helena, where he died in 1821.
