Socrates Roman Philosopher – Marble Bust

, ,

Socrates, a marble bust.

Socrates (c. 470–399 BC) was a prominent Greek philosopher hailing from Athens, widely regarded as the father of Western philosophy and one of the earliest moral philosophers in the ethical tradition of thought.

Despite his significant influence on philosophy, he left behind no written works, and his legacy is primarily based on accounts written by his students, particularly Plato and Xenophon, after his death.

Socrates remains an enigmatic figure, known for his Socratic method of questioning, which aimed to stimulate critical thinking and uncover deeper truths.
