The Emperor Vespasian – A Marble Bust

Vespasian, born on November 17th, AD 9 and passing away on June 23rd or 24th, 79, served as a Roman emperor between AD 69 and 79. As the fourth and final emperor to reign during the Year of the Four Emperors, he established the Flavian dynasty, which governed the Empire for 27 years. Vespasian implemented fiscal reforms and united the Empire, resulting in political stability and an extensive Roman construction program. Although Vespasian hailed from an equestrian family, he became the first member of his family to attain senatorial rank later in life. He earned recognition for his military accomplishments, including serving as legate of Legio II Augusta during the Roman invasion of Britain in 43 and quelling the Jewish rebellion of 66 in Judaea.
