The Young Hercules, after Thorvaldsen

Hercules mother Alcmena, was visited one night by Zeus, he came to warn her of his wife’s plot.

Zeus wife Hera was furious at the news of the birth of Hercules so she sent two deadly snakes to his cradle, to kill him, but the baby Hercules stood up and Killed the snakes with his bare hands, this was the first show of his great strength.

The base is carved with scenes of the trials he will have to face during his life.

The original statue is housed in the Thorvaldsen museum, Copenhagen.

Height 50cm. Weight 12kg.
